The gist

Manus isn't a Claude Code competitor. It's a different class of tool: a fully autonomous agent that works for hours without supervision. Claude Code is a tool in a developer's hands; Manus is more like an employee you can hand a task to and then walk off to a meeting. Understanding the difference means knowing when to use which.

🎨 Picture this: Claude Code is like an experienced assistant sitting next to you. You explain, it does the work, you check it. Manus is like an independent contractor. You give it a task, "research this and prepare a report," leave for 3 hours, and come back to a finished report. Different jobs, different tools.

Key concepts

  • Autonomous agents: work for hours without human supervision
  • Multi-agent parallelism: many agents working at the same time (the developers have claimed 100+)
  • Models inside Manus: at launch these were Claude and Qwen; the lineup has changed, so check the current one on the Manus website
  • Computer use: Manus drives a browser the way a person does
  • Use cases: research, data analysis, complex tasks that involve the internet
  • When NOT to use it: writing code, working with local files

Theory

What Manus really is

Manus launched in February 2025 and went viral: there was a waiting list for invitations. In December 2025 the company was bought by Meta, and since September 2026 Manus has been operating independently again. During the change of ownership there was a gap in access (August 23-25, 2026), so keep important results on your own computer, not only inside the service.

🎨 Picture this: the first Manus demos were like the first iPhone. Not because "wow, nobody had ever made a phone before," but because "this is the first time everything works together this well."

Tech stack:

  • Models: at launch it used Claude from Anthropic (yes, the same Claude) and Qwen from Alibaba; the model lineup has changed, so check today's on the Manus website
  • Parallelism: according to the developers, blocks of 100+ agents at once
  • Tools: browser, code, file system, web search
  • Run time: several hours without interruption

How Manus works under the hood

Code
User → Task (Manus interface)
     ↓
Orchestrator agent (language model)
├─ Breaks the task into subtasks
     └─ Launches parallel blocks
            ├─ Agent 1: Web search
            ├─ Agent 2: Data analysis
            ├─ Agent 3: Code/calculations
            ├─ Agent 4: Document processing
            └─ ... up to 100+ at once
     ↓
Combining the results → Final deliverable

🎨 Picture this: the Manus orchestrator is like an orchestra conductor. Each musician (agent) plays their own part. The conductor doesn't play; they coordinate 50 musicians so the result is a symphony.

Claude Code vs Manus: when to use which

This matters a lot. Picking the wrong tool means losing time and money.

Criterion Claude Code Manus
Writing code ✅ Ideal ⚠️ Slower, more expensive
Working with local files ✅ Native ❌ No direct access
Interactive development ✅ Instant feedback ❌ Autonomous, not interactive
5-30 minute tasks ✅ Best fit ❌ Setup overhead
2-8 hour tasks ⚠️ Needs supervision ✅ Ideal
Working with the internet Browser MCP ✅ Native
Parallel research Limited ✅ 100+ threads
Without user supervision ⚠️ Possible (background agents, routines), but check the result ✅ Built for this
Cost Included in paid Claude plans (current prices: What's current) A free plan with daily credits plus paid plans; long tasks burn through credits fast
Availability ⚠️ Depends on your country: check Anthropic's list ⚠️ Depends on region; in 2026 there was a gap during the change of ownership

The line has moved. Since 2026 Claude has its own autonomous modes too: background agents and scheduled routines in Claude Code, and Claude Cowork for smaller tasks with documents and spreadsheets. So the table above shows the typical choice, not a hard rule. For your task, try both tools on a small example.

What Manus does best

1. Deep research on the internet

Task: "Analyze the real estate market in Cuenca, Ecuador: average prices by neighborhood over the last 3 years, trends, forecasts, and a comparison with other cities in Ecuador."

Manus will:

  • Open many websites at once
  • Compare data from different sources
  • Put together an analytical report with tables and charts
  • Time: roughly several hours, without you

Check the numbers and facts in a report like this against the sources: the agent can make mistakes or pick up outdated data.

🎨 Picture this: it's like hiring a team of 5 interns who all search the internet at the same time, and then a senior analyst pulls it all into a report. Except you don't pay the interns.

2. Complex document analysis

Type this into the chat
Task: "Read these 20 lease agreements,
pick out the non-standard terms,
build a comparison table,
and flag potential risks."

Claude Code: can do it, but slower and with supervision. Manus: hand over the files → leave → come back to a finished table.

3. Building full reports

Type this into the chat
Task: "Build a business case for investing in commercial
real estate in Ecuador for a US investor:
- Legal analysis
- Taxes
- Risks and how to reduce them
- Financial model
- Comparison with alternatives (Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama)"

The result a few hours later: a long document. It's a draft for a professional to review; it doesn't replace legal advice.

4. Monitoring and data collection

  • Watching competitors (prices, new offers)
  • Pulling together data from many sources
  • Putting together daily digests

Claude + Manus: a combined workflow

🎨 Picture this: Claude Code and Manus are like a Toyota Prius. The electric motor (Manus) is good for the city: slow driving, frequent stops, running on its own. The gas engine (Claude Code) is good for the highway: speed, predictability, control. Together they're more efficient than either one alone.

Example workflow for a content agency:

Code
Manus (overnight, on its own):
→ Collects the week's trends on Ecuador real estate
→ Analyzes competitors' top 50 posts
→ Creates a content plan with ideas and sources

Claude Code (in the morning, with you):
→ Reads the Manus report
→ Writes specific posts from the ideas
→ Publishes through your social channel's API
→ Writes the code for the scheduler

Example for legal research:

Code
Manus:
→ Reads 15 sources on the law
→ Writes a 20-page baseline analysis

Claude Code:
→ Takes the analysis as input
→ Writes specific recommendations for the client
→ Generates a contract template

Technical details: how to use Manus

Signing up:

  1. manus.im → sign up (as of October 2026 there's a free plan with daily credits)
  2. For paid plan terms and business access, see the service's website

How to write tasks:

Manus works best with tasks that:

  • ✅ Clearly describe the expected result (the deliverable)
  • ✅ Specify the output format (PDF report, CSV table, presentation)
  • ✅ Give context and constraints
  • ✅ Are long and have several stages

A GOOD task for Manus:

"Research the short-term rental market (Airbnb)
in Cuenca, Ecuador.

What to research:
1. Average nightly price by property type (studio, 1BR, 2BR, 3BR)
2. Average occupancy rate by season
3. Top 5 neighborhoods by return
4. Regulations: are there any restrictions on Airbnb?
5. An analysis of the 5 main competitors

Sources: Airbnb.com, booking.com, local news, tourism reports.

Output format:
- PDF report
- Data table in Excel
- A one-page summary for an investor"

Manus limitations (important to know)

🎨 Picture this: Manus is like an excellent remote consultant. It can do a lot, but it won't come to your office, won't look at your screen, and won't ask you questions every 5 minutes.

  1. No access to local files: only what you upload or what's on the internet
  2. Not for writing code: Claude Code does that better
  3. Autonomous, not interactive: you can't steer it in real time
  4. Credit usage: long tasks with dozens of agents burn credits fast
  5. Geopolitical limits: availability depends on your region
  6. No access to private systems: only the public internet

  2. Give Manus a simple task: "Find the 5 best articles about the Latin American real estate market from the past year and briefly summarize each one"
  3. While Manus is working, work on something else in Claude Code
  4. Compare the Manus result with what Claude Code would give you for the same task

Tools and resources

Key takeaways

Manus = an autonomous agent for tasks that take hours. Claude Code = an interactive tool for development. They aren't competitors; they're different classes of tool.

Manus is better for: deep research, document analysis, building reports, monitoring the internet. Anything that takes 2+ hours and needs parallel searching.

Claude Code is better for: writing code, working with local files, interactive development, quick 5-30 minute tasks.

Combine them: Manus collects the data → Claude Code writes code and documents based on that data.
