Price increase notice

Email · Emails and scripts Free Checked: October 2026

Warn clients ahead of time: the new price, the reason, what stays the same and how current clients can switch over.

What it is

A price increase goes over better when you announce it ahead of time and give the reason in one sentence. The template offers an existing client one way to make the transition: pay at the old price until a set date, keep the price for projects already started, or pay for a period in advance. Before sending, check your contract: if it sets a price or a notice period, work out the date from that.

SUBJECT: New prices starting [date]

Hi [Name],

A heads-up: starting [date; 30–60 days' notice is typical], the price of [service / plan] will be [new price] instead of [old price].

The reason: [one honest sentence: my costs for ... went up; I've added ...; the work now takes more time because of ...].

What stays the same: [scope, timing, terms].
[What's being added, if anything: ...]

For you: [keep one option:
- everything is billed at the current price until [date];
- the price doesn't change for projects already started;
- you can pay [period] in advance at the current price until [date].]

If you'd like to talk about how this affects our work, reply to this email and we'll find a time.

Thank you for working with me.

HOW TO REFINE THIS WITH AI
"I'm raising my price from [old] to [new] starting [date]. The reason: [fact]. This client has worked with me for [how long], and what matters to them is [what]. Rewrite the email in a calm, respectful tone, up to 130 words, with no excess apologies and no pressure. Also suggest 3 questions the client might ask, with short answers."
